EXPERIENCE

AfriSance Consulting’s directors’ combined work experience in regulatory and legal compliance environments exceeds 44 years of which a substantial number of years were spent in senior and top management positions in one of South Africa’s leading companies in the Information and Communications Technology Industries, namely Vodacom (Pty) Ltd.

They have grass roots knowledge, understanding and experience of the workings, mandates and interests of business, investors, governments and regulators in a variety of African countries and participated in a number of international and regional policy-making fora.

Since 2006 they have led and performed a substantial number of legal compliance projects in the public sector and leading listed companies.

Lise holds B luris and LLB degrees from the University of Pretoria and a Labour Relations Diploma from the University of South Africa. She has been accredited by the Compliance Institute of South Africa as a Compliance Professional and certified by EthicsSA as an Ethics Officer.

Lise’s career spans a period exceeding 22 years. She is currently a Director of AfriSance Consulting, a consulting firm which she founded in 2006 and which offers specialized regulatory, legal compliance and ethics management services to both the public and private sector.

She has extensive management experience in regulatory and legal compliance management. She has served as Executive Director: Regulatory Affairs on the Board of Directors of Vodacom (SA) for a number of years and received the Chief Executive’s Award for Excellence in 2002 from Alan Knott Craig, the former CEO of Vodacom Group Pty Ltd.

She lectured in Constitutional and Administrative law and Interpretation of Statutes at Unisa’s Law Faculty and held the position of Labour Relations Director at Unisa for three years. She also practiced as an advocate of the High Court of South Africa and was a member of the Pretoria Bar Association.  She has in-depth knowledge and extensive practical experience in strategic operational management, corporate law, the negotiation, drafting and conclusion of key commercial agreements and the management of corporate litigation.

Her experience specifically covers the interpretation and management of institutional frameworks as well as the mandate, role and functions of government departments and regulatory entities. Lise’s unique consultative approach and legal auditing skills provides her clients with strategic and management direction, and in the case of the public sector, has resulted in changes to national legislation.   

She is well versed in the management of large scale legal compliance projects and has conducted 14 legal compliance audits at the Department of Rural Development and Land Affairs between 2007 and 2011. Some of her other clients include MTN SA, Hernic Ferrochrome, the National Research Foundation, Connectnet Broadband Wireless and Fast Communications.

Vanessa’s experience spans a period exceeding 21 years during which she, prior to joining AfriSance Consulting in 2008, occupied senior management positions in high profile regulated communications companies such as Telkom, Cell C and Vodacom and practiced as a member of the Pretoria Bar Association, as an advocate of the High Court of South Africa.

She has extensive experience in the operational management of all aspects of the regulatory and legal compliance function and is regarded as an expert in the fields of regulatory, legal compliance and ethics management in both the public and private sector.

Her proficiency in interpretation of statutes, commercial and administrative law and her proven ability to apply the relevant law to different institutional frameworks, mandates, business models, technologies and service environments are regarded as invaluable by her former employers and clients.
 
Vanessa’s primary focus since 2008 has been the provisioning of regulatory and legal compliance management services which range from determining clients’ compliance universes, the conducting of legal compliance risk assessments and the performance of large scale legal compliance audits.

Her technical expertise in assisting organisations to develop and implement commercially viable strategies and controls to ensure legal and ethics compliance has been widely recognised and appreciated by her clients.

Her clients include inter alia the National Research Foundation, the Independent Development Trust,  MTN SA, Connectnet Broadband Wireless, XLink Communications and Hernic Ferrochrome. She also conducted eleven large scale legal compliance audits at the Department of Rural Development and Land Affairs between 2008 and 2011.
